Uganda Christian University (UCU) has publicized the introduction of a new diploma course in Law.
The course is set to commence in January next year and is intended to favor “non-lawyers” or individuals with little or no background with studies in law.
Accordingly, the programme will provide students with abilities essential to provide support functions as paralegals in law firms, government offices and other offices that give some form of legal input to society.
In terms of costs, the diploma will take a financial toll of UGX 500,000 as tuition fees per semester, for any interested individual.
UCU added that the course is meant to equip students with the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge abilities and attitudes to provide excellent legal input in various areas of society in Uganda and beyond that require such exposure and training.
The two-year course will be divided into four semesters of full-time study inclusive of an internship.
By the end of the diploma, the notice says that the learner is expected to demonstrate several competencies as it seeks to produce a holistic professional with cognitive abilities, necessary personal and interpersonal skills, a positive attitude and personal and spiritual development.
For one to be eligible to pursue the diploma programme, they would need to at least have completed Senior Six with any of the following options; direct entry/A’level entrants scheme, mature age entry scheme; Higher Education Certificate (HEC) degree entry and any post-O-level certificate recognised by the National Council for Higher Education in consultation with the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) as equivalent to the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education.
