Victoria Atukunda a first-year law student at Uganda Christian University (UCU) will represent Uganda in the Miss Planet International Competitions at a global level in Cambodia in April this year. This happened after Ms Atukunda won the Ugandan pageant which was held over the weekend.
Ms Monica Akecth, the national director of Miss Planet Uganda said that there were many contestants who applied via the online application portal, they were then vetted by internal experts in fashion pageantry where Atukunda emerged to the champion.
The areas of concern were presentation skills, passion on the advocacy issue, height and looks. The ceremony was graced by Mr Richard Baguma, the founding secretary general of The United Nations Association of Uganda which was the main partner of the pageant. He requested the winner to use her Law experience to focus on issues of climate change and refugees when she represents Uganda at the international level in Cambodia.
Victoria who was very excited upon achieving one of her dreams said that she is ready to change the lives of less privileged people in Uganda and Africa at large. She is going to be working with Refugee Law project and UNAU to know problems affecting refugees which are related to climate change.
