Uganda Christian University (UCU) Law School Electoral Commission (EC) has been dragged to court by society presidential aspirant Dickens Kanamwangi. This occurred after the commission declared the presidential seat vacant.
Dickens dragged the commission to the University Court to quash the decision of him being removed from the election. He felt that it was unfair.
Julius Nabimanya, the chairperson of the Uganda Christian Law School Electoral Commission says that Dickens failed to meet the requirements of the commission to become President.
“In as much as he was the only candidate for the seat, he failed to get the 50 percent required for him to be declared. He got 49.4 percent,” he said.
He says one of the rules of the commission says that a sole candidate needs to get more than 50 percent of the vote to become President. Julius says that he is confident that they will win over the Dickens case pending in court.
“I have defended a multiple of court cases already. We are waiting for the ruling on the Dickens case next week,” he said.
Ruben Mukiiza, the other Presidential aspirant of the Law School was ousted from the ballot paper on grounds of being involved in examination malpractice by the University administration. Julius claims that those were orders from above and they had to comply.
