The University Community of Uganda Christian University (UCU) is devastated by the tragic loss of not only a revered lecturer but also a distinguished lawyer, Mr. Raphael Okiot. The heartbreaking news of his passing in an early morning crash on Entebbe Road has left a profound void in the hearts of those who knew him.
Mr. Raphael Okiot, a talented lawyer and dedicated lecturer at UCU, was on his way to court on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, when the unthinkable occurred. A cement truck belonging to Seyani Company Ltd lost control at the Nkumba traffic lights junction, careening into Mr. Okiot’s path before overturning and crushing his car in a horrific collision.
The tragic incident unfolded as both vehicles were heading towards Entebbe, leaving a trail of devastation in its wake. Mr. Okiot’s life was tragically cut short in the prime of his career, leaving his family, friends, colleagues, and students grappling with the sudden loss.
His wife, Mrs. Faith Irene Kwagala, herself a magistrate grade one in Kyenjojo, bravely announced her husband’s passing to the public. Mrs. Kwagala, undoubtedly devastated by the loss of her beloved husband, shared that funeral arrangements for Mr. Okiot will be communicated to mourners and well-wishers at a later time.
