The increasing number of development projects Uganda Christian University (UCU) Mukono is currently undergoing has just cost them eight lecturers. The university is constructing the new Kampala campus, renovating the university roads of Mukono Campus and also building Mengo medical school. These are seemingly draining the university treasury.
The lecturers from Bishop Barham University College, an affiliate college of Uganda Christian University Mukono, Rev. Can. Dr. Stanley Katungwensi, the head of the Post Graduate and Research Department, Reuben Twinomujuni, the University public Relations Officer, Brian Kiiza, the University Cashier, Wycliffe Rushaju, Ben Bella Ilakut, Mable Barigye, Fynne Ayebazibwe and Friedrick Mugira submitted their resignation letters.
In the letters, they accuse Dr. Rev Medard Rugyendo principal of the institution of slashing their teaching and transport allowances without even consulting from them. The teaching allowance was slashed by half, and the transport allowances completely scrapped off.
They also accuse the principal of mistreating them by enforcing harsh rules that are equating the college to a primary school.
The principal denies the accusations and does not seem to be bothered by their resignation. He is quoted as saying that those who are ready to serve will fill the gaps.
This is not new to the college because in 2016, some lecturers of the college also resigned with the same reasons citing scrapping of allowances among other reasons.
