Uganda Christian University (UCU) School of Medicine has achieved a groundbreaking milestone, earning certification from the General Medical Council (GMC) of the United Kingdom. This certification opens doors for UCU’s medical graduates to take the Professional and Linguistic Assessment Board (PLAB) examinations, a prerequisite for practicing medicine in the UK and other regions, including Europe, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
By passing the PLAB examinations, UCU graduates will not only be able to practice internationally but also pursue postgraduate training and residency programs in these countries. Furthermore, the recognition by the GMC underscores the university’s commitment to producing globally competitive medical professionals.
In addition to GMC certification, UCU medical graduates are now recognized by prominent international organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO). This recognition bolsters their qualifications on the global stage and enhances their employability in diverse healthcare systems worldwide.
UCU is also undergoing evaluation by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) in the United States. Certification by ECFMG would allow UCU graduates to sit for the United States Medical Licensing Examinations (USMLE), enabling them to practice and train in the U.S. healthcare system.
