The head of Foundation Studies at Uganda Christian University has resigned under mysterious circumstances.
The Rev. Amos Turyahabwe’s resignation according to sources close to the man of God follows his appointment as the Anglican Chaplain of Makerere University at St. Francis Chapel, after serving UCU for over 14 years at different levels ranging from teaching assistant, lecturer to head of department.
The reverend confirmed his departure from the university though continued to assert that he is not leaving UCU in bad faith as many might tend to think, “UCU has been a very good community to me and I have learnt a lot of values, especially in the area of Christian ethics.”
However, sources who spoke on anonymity told Campus Bee that the man of God was not in good books with the university top administration and feared being fired like one of his colleagues the DOSA Rev. Milton Tweheyo.
When asked to rate UCU having served for over ten years, Turyabwe said, “UCU needs to improve on transparencies in communication and commitment in implementing policies.”

The man of God who seems disgruntled accuses the Mukono based Christian university for sidelining its staff coupled with segregation and witch-hunting.
“Policies should be implemented equally without segregation, without attaching them to particular individuals or offices,” Turyahabwe said.
The long-serving reverend also cited that UCU has poor mentorship style that needs to be improved. “Now I’m leaving this department; but because there is no clear and systematic mentorship programme, I cannot recommend anyone to take over the mantle from me,” he said.
Turyahabwe said mentoring individuals to take over from their immediate supervisors helps the institution grow and achieve the set goals because those mentored have a clear understanding of the institution’s objectives.
Turyahabwe succeeded the Rev. Daniel Button, as head of department in 2010 and will commence his duties as Makerere University Chaplain on 1st March 2015.
Turyahabwe, first joined UCU in 1997, to pursue a Bachelor of Divinity which he got in 2000. Then he got a postgraduate Diploma in Education in 2002 after which he went for a Master of Theology which he got in 2006.
