Reaching the Hive, is news of the upgrade and invention of a better polling tool that has never been used anywhere in the universities of Uganda. Uganda Christian University (UCU) has come up with an online voting application that will be used in the guild elections throughout their campuses starting with the next elections.
This is due to the difficulties that they have been facing in choosing their guild president as all students from all the sister branches have to travel to the main campus in Mukono to elect their guild. These other branches include Bishop Barham University College – BBUC in Kabale, UCU Mbale University College and the Medical School at Mengo. They all have one guild president.
This application which was named “e-Chagua” will aim at reducing the money uncured in the electoral process and the time they spend staging the physical voting materials. It will also be connected to the students’ portal as every student will be able to login and cast only one vote.
“The app was tested with a sample of the recent election of Theology College Representatives and turned out to be successful,” said Byarugaba one of the administrators that control it.
On speaking to one of the Bees, Dungu David who is a second year student at the institution said that the university can use this same application to select it’s own guild president that they want as there’s no physical proof of who voted and how many votes were cast.
