The Uganda Christian University (UCU) Law School has received International Humanitarian Law books from International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Uganda.
According to ICRC Uganda, the books are aimed at spreading the knowledge of the International Humanitarian Law.
“The ICRC has donated an assortment of publications to @uculaw school to enhance the teaching of International Humanitarian Law. The ICRC provides material and teaching assistance to universities for the purpose of spreading knowledge on IHL,” ICRC Uganda Tweeted.
Recently, ICRC Uganda also donated IHL books to Makerere University Law School.
International Committee of the Red Cross Uganda organizes annual Inter-University IHL debates.
International humanitarian law is a set of rules that seek to limit the effects of armed conflict. It lays out the responsibilities of states and non-state armed groups during an armed conflict.
IHL is based on the 1949 Fourth Geneva Convention on protecting civilians in conflict and the 1977 and 2005 Additional Protocols. The principles that guide and safeguard humanitarian action in armed conflicts are also based on IHL.
