In her fragile condition, Viola Nagasha, made an unexpected appearance at the venue of the car wash at Kyadondo Rugby Grounds that was organized during the weekend on Saturday to raise finances for her treatment.
Nagasha is the 2nd year student of the Bachelor statistics and economics at Uganda Christian University (UCU) battling with Leukemia, cancer of the blood.
At around 4:30, a small Toyota sneaked Nagasha into the venue, whose presence was only noticed after the Emcee made an announcement. Many could not bear to draw closer to see her in the condition she was in, for they did not know how they would express their feelings to her. Others moved to the window of the car to say encouraging words and give her comfort.
In the car, she lay on her elder sister Daphne’s laps, a strong young girl that has been at her side since the time she was admitted at Mulago in March and has since then been caring for her sister.
The car wash at the rugby grounds parking organized by the university guild government did not exactly draw the numbers expected, but the presence of the few cars and students from UCU who filled up a bus and a costa showed Viola that people will do anything to see her survive this.
The majority of the activities were managed by students of UCU both from Kampala and the main campuses whose presence was noticed all throughout Lugogo carrying charity boxes, with placards of Viola. They also tried to persuade a number of drivers to change their parking to the location where the cars were being washed.
The event raised about UGX. 3.4 million from the car wash, sales made and the charity boxes, only a very small portion of the total 108 million required for her treatment in India.
