Uganda Christian University (UCU) is set to conduct online elections for the Guild Elections using the Electronic Voting System. This was revealed in a letter dated 8 October, 2020.
“Owing to the lockdown caused by the COVID-19 global pandemic and the Presidential directive on the reopening of institutions of higher learning, Uganda Christian University shall conduct ‘scientific elections’ through the Electronic-voting (e- voting) System for the forthcoming Guild elections,” an excerpt from the letter read.
The University highlights that how the E- voting will operate will be communicated.
“The course of preparation and methodology of the said e- voting shall be communicated in due course by the Directorate of Students’ Affairs.” the letter read.
Uganda Christian University usually holds Guild campaigns and elections in the September intake. Therefore it means that the terms of the current student leaders is soon expiring.
“Regarding student governance and in reference to the provisions of the Students’ Constitution, be notified that the term of office of the current Students’ Guild Government is soon expiring. In this communication, I am guided by Articles 28(1) and 87(1) of the Guild Constitution.” the letter further read.
The next semester at Uganda Christian University is slated to start on 15 October, 2020 with finalists expected to report to Campus to have face to face classes. The rest of the students will conduct online classes.
