Uganda Christian University (UCU) main campus will host a two days inter university tax debate that will involve 12 Ugandan universities.
The debate will take place on the 6th and 7th November at the ICMI building at UCU.
The debate is organized by the Southern and East Africa Information and Negotiation Institute commonly known as SEATINI, a regional non – governmental organization and a major tax player in the country.
The tax debate at UCU is organized in partnership with Oxfam, Action Aid and the UCU Faculty of Law under the theme, “Advancing the tax agenda in Uganda: the role of the youth”.
The NGO has been very influential in steering the conversation and strengthening stakeholders capacity to influence trade and fiscal policy at the national, regional and international level. The organization has also been involved in recent debates about the current biting OTT tax and the taxation of extractives in Uganda.
Through the debate, SEATINI is trying to encourage participation of the youth in contributing to the growing tax debate in the country and be able to influence policy in one way or the other.
The universities, UCU, Makerere University (Mak), Gulu University, Kyambogo University, Islamic University of Uganda, International University of East Africa, Kampala International University, Mountain of the Moon University, Cavendish University, Uganda Martyrs University, Makerere University Business School, and Mbarara University of Science and Technology will compete until the final when the champion for this year’s debate will be determined.
The previous debate was year was held at UCU with Mak emerging the winner.
