Since Thursday, Uganda Christian University (UCU) community has been on the hunt for Brian Mwesigwa who was previously appointed by the guild president Prisca Amongin as her vice.
It’s reported that Mwesigwa was most expected to turn up for the swearing-in ceremony that was held during Thursday afternoon prayers at the Mukono-based institution but the whole new cabinet, including Amongin, waited for in vain.
But the word on campus is that after his appointment, it was discovered that he did not have the relevant documents to enable him qualify for the post. Some sources that preferred to remain anonymous have told Campus Bee that he actually submitted a resignation letter to the speaker of the guild parliament instead of the asked for documents during the vetting session at the beginning of this week.
The source close to the speaker adds that his academic performance is below what the campus constitution requires.
The search intesfied yesterday afternoon when the old government that was led by Pius Nyikirize was handing over to Amongin’s as everyone wondered what could have befallen Mwesigwa, but still he couldn’t be traced.
Currently the post is still vacant, while Amongin says she is considering a number of other suitable candidates for the position.
However, the handover ceremony went on as planned with several former leaders being awarded by David Mugawe, who represented the Vice Chancellor and the Director of Students Affairs, Olive A. Birabi in Nkoyoyo, yesterday evening.
The event started with an accountability report being read out to the UCU community, that included details of how the students’ guild fund was spent by the regime.
From a sum of over Shs300m for the planning of the university, the guild ran a number of events in the university including the freshers’ ball, the guild concert, sports activities, among others.
Campus Bee will update you when Mwesigwa resurfaces.
