Today the boys get separated from the men! The finals of the Nile Special University Football League after a few setbacks here and there are on today and the moment a real soccer king will be crowned is today at the Mandela national stadium. Uganda Martyrs University and Makerere University Business School (MUBS) will today take on each other in yet another much-anticipated final at Namboole.
The two teams had a feel of Namboole stadium on Wednesday ahead of the finals and are both optimistic that they will walk away champions. Talking to Campusbee, UMU Captain Emmanuel Kamya assures that MUBS should not expect a walk through as they (UMU) are going to put up a manned performance. MUBS coach Charles Ayeko pointed out that his side won’t be in a comfortable zone because they won last season but rather are planning a stronger bid against their opponents.
Both teams are not giving the other chances to win the title with Uganda Martyrs team captain Emmanuel Kamya and coach Simon Ddungu dismissing opinions that playing in the over 30,000-seater stadium for the first time will be a disadvantage to them. “We are not intimidated by the size of the venue but we are rather focused”, pointed out UMU coach Simon Ddungu.
Makerere and Ndejje will also be battling it out for the third place. They will be first to kick-off action at 12:00noon and then the epic final between MUBS v Uganda Martyrs coming in at 4pm. The organizers have sh2.5m cash prize for the champions, sh1.5m for the first runners-up and sh1m for the third placed team.
