Uganda Christian University is undoubtedly one of the finest private Universities in East Africa. Many wouldn’t doubt that it has quite a reputation for its moral standards and academic excellence.
The Mukono based university has had a fair share of success since its promulgation in 1997 as a university arising from its premier theological seminary/college Bishop Tucker Theological College, established in 1913 and named after the pioneer missionary bishop Alfred Robert Tucker.
7th January 2016 embossed Uganda Christian University in the stone books of History as the first private university in Uganda to have constituent colleges with the installation of the 1st Principal of Mbale University College, Dr. Stephen Mungoma.
Dr. Stephen Mungoma was installed by the Chancellor of Uganda Christian University and archbishop of the Anglican Church of Uganda, Stanley Ntagali at St. Andrews Cathedral. The other constituent college Bishop Barham university is located in Kabale.
The beaming principal had this to say about his installation which he labelled a miracle. “Growing up in a small village some 24 kilometres from Mbale town, I never imagined that one day, I would be standing in St. Andrew’s Cathedral being installed as the first Principal of a University College. But as somebody has said, “miracles never end.” This is a miracle.”
He voiced his gratitude to the mammoth congregation in attendance which consisted of Members of Parliament, Members of the University Council, Members of the Local Advisory Committee, The Bishop of Mbale Diocese, The Vice Chancellor, Uganda Christian University, Deputy Vice Chancellors, Uganda Christian University, The Principal, Bishop Barham University College.
“I wish to sincerely thank the Chancellor of Uganda Christian University, His Grace, the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, and the University Council for appointing me as the first Principal of Uganda Christian University, Mbale University College. Thank you very much for entrusting to me this great responsibility.
