Mukono grade one magistrate Abrahams Achok Moding on 16 December 2014 remanded a former student of Uganda Christian University and a former representative of the law school identified as Joshua Ssengendo for allegedly stealing 1Kg of pork and 9 bottles of beer worth Shs39,000.
Ssegendo was arrested on 13 December by the Police attached to Uganda Christian University police post after a complaint was filed by the management of Malex Pork-Joint along Wandegeya- Buguju highway near the UCU main gate.
According to police criminal records, Ssengendo has several cases to answer ranging from theft and robbery but has been in hiding. The records also show that Ssengendo has been terrorising UCU students robbing them of their valuables such as laptops and phones.
The O/C UCU police post , Abraham Tukundane, told Campusbee that Ssengendo was arrested after he tricked the attendant of the Pork-Joint to go by him more bottles of beer from a nearby bar before he fled with the pork and nine bottles of beer he had earlier on ordered.
Tukundane also identified Ssengendo as a former UCU law student who doubled as Mp law during the Baitwa government.
He further explained that, late last year the Police recovered two laptops from Kyambogo University that Ssegendo had robbed from a UCU student.
About the criminal records, Tukundane said that, among those who registered cases against Ssengendo included his own girl-friend whose identity the police declined to reveal due to security reasons after he allegedly stole her mobile phone before running into hiding.
Tukundane said, Ssegendo normally comes during the opening of every semester to take advantage of freshers.
However, in his statement to the police, Ssegendo denied all allegations and charges saying he did not steal the pork and beer but was only framed.
He was charged with theft under SD/10/07/12/14 before he was arraigned before the Mukono grade one magistrate who remanded him to Kauga prisons until 20 January 2015.
Tukundane however, urges the entire UCU community to remain vigilante and desist from associating with Ssengendo urging that whoever cites him around should immediately tip the security or police.
