The Uganda Consulate in Guangzhou, China was excited as it hosted a “Silverback Christmas” celebration, drawing over 200 guests from the tourism, hospitality, and business communities.

The event, held on the evening of December 20, was a vibrant showcase of Uganda’s rich cultural heritage and natural wonders, with a special focus on the iconic Silverback gorilla.

Consul General Ambassador Judyth Nsababera welcomed attendees with heartfelt remarks, emphasizing the gathering’s significance not just as a holiday celebration but as an opportunity to highlight Uganda’s unique treasures. “This is a moment to embrace the spirit of home, family, and conservation,” she proclaimed, setting a tone of unity and purpose for the evening.

The Silverback gorilla, a powerful symbol of Uganda’s wildlife conservation efforts, took center stage at the event.

Ambassador Nsababera spoke passionately about the importance of protecting these majestic creatures, urging attendees to consider the transformative experience of gorilla trekking in Uganda’s renowned national parks.

“To encounter these gentle giants in their natural habitat is nothing short of magical,” she stated, inviting everyone to include Uganda on their travel itineraries.

A highlight of the evening was a captivating video presentation showcasing the breathtaking landscapes and vibrant culture of Uganda, produced by the talented Derrick Ssenyonyi.

Guests were transported to the lush terrains of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park by Mr John Tugumisirize, a Uganda Wildlife Ranger who has worked as a trekker in Bwindi for 13 years, reinforcing the message that Uganda is a destination like no other.

The event also paid tribute to Dr. Gladys Kalema-Zikusooka, a prominent conservationist and advocate for wildlife protection, whose efforts have made a significant impact on Uganda’s environmental landscape. Ambassador Nsababera praised Dr. Kalema-Zikusooka’s dedication, emphasizing that conservation is a legacy of love and care for future generations.

Reflecting on the deeper meaning of the season, the Consul General drew parallels between the nurturing nature of the Silverback gorilla and the bonds of family. “May we find strength in our connections with loved ones and a renewed commitment to preserving the treasures of our homeland,” she encouraged.

As the evening unfolded, guests shared in the joy of Ugandan culture through music, dance, and culinary delights, all while fostering connections that transcend borders. The Silverback Christmas celebration served not only as a festive gathering but also as a reminder of Uganda’s commitment to conservation, tourism, and cultural heritage.

In closing, Ambassador Nsababera expressed gratitude to all attendees for their support and enthusiasm for Uganda’s tourism and conservation initiatives.

“Together, let us celebrate the beauty of our nation and the hope for a brighter future. I invite you to add it to your bucket list—a journey to Uganda is a journey to the soul of Africa. Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year!” she concluded, leaving guests inspired and eager to explore the wonders of the Pearl of Africa.
