A student from Uganda, Ivan Amanya has been left stuck after his application for residence permit in Denmark for an internship programme, was rejected.
In a screenshot of an email accessed by this website, the Danish embassy replied to the student informing him that they could not approve his passport which is polycarbonate in nature.
Many more Ugandans use similar passports for immigration purposes.
In response to the saga, Uganda’s Ministry responsible for Immigration had this to say:
“New Passports have been approved by the Denmark Authorities’. So, we can only assume that your friend used the old invalidated passport and later got the new passport late into his application, though we await details”
“Denmark has a passport office and Ugandans are getting passports and using them to get residence and travel. These are the only passports we have and they are the only recognized passports globally by all countries”
Polycarbonate e-passports were introduced in Uganda with hopes to ease travelers’ experiences, improve document verification, and enhance travel security for Ugandan citizens
