On a random day as I perused through my SnapChat stories, I landed on Code256-Ug an account for Ugandans, by Ugandans, run by Ugandans connecting Ugandans in the country and in the diaspora. A random person hosts the account for a day and different people ask day to day questions like; “How old are you, where do you go to school, are you single…???” It is more like a reality TV show of sorts.
Ugandans on Snapchat (Code256-Ug) is a concept that was concieved last month by a group of Ugandans in and out of Uganda including Lobstar Joseph Maloba a second year student of BBA at MAK and other Ugandans studying, and living out of Uganda, Alex Ainomugisha (China), Levi Davis (S.A), Kabera Edgar (UK), and Theo Esther, a Ugandan chic in flying school in South Africa.
We reached out to Lobstar Joseph Maloba and asked him a few questions about Ugandans on Snapchat;
1). What are your goals, why choose snapchat?
We choose SnapChat because it was a very Virgin Platform with a bright future and its growing steadily for sure. Our goal is to bring together Ugandans abroad and those in Uganda, celebrate life, share experiences and to learn from one another.
2). What makes you different from most social media campaigns that fail just after their birth?
What makes us different from other campaigns is that we are run by Ugandans themselves,
they control their own account so we believe that they can’t fail themselves.
We also have vast team with brilliant ideas from different corners of the world but with a Ugandan touch of course.
3). What Inspired this move?
The urge to bridge the Gap between Ugandans in the diaspora and those back home was what majorly inspired this Move…
Ugandans in and out of Uganda are given chance to showcase their lives, neighbourhood and daily activities for a given period of time. CampusBee also hosted Ugandans on SnapChat on 1st April via the great Bossa Bash at Nkozi University.
