Organise a concert on a Sunday and seat back to witness a flop. However, organise a Jazz concert on a Sunday at Serena and sit back to witness a full house. The sight of a full house of corporate class is what rocked Serena on Sunda at the Jazz it Up with Airtel Concert.
Arguably Uganda’s Jazz Maestros shared the stage last night and performed to full satisfaction of the crowd.
The main acts of the night were Qwela Junction and Jospeh Kizito of the Sax Aces fame.
At about 8:30pm, the show that was meant to start at 6pm kicked off with Urban Tv’s Denzel as the host. Qwela Junction took on the stage to do what they do best and were joined shortly by Kizito Jospeh alias Sax Aces.
To the comfort of revellers, sweet Jazz tunes swirled through the minds of the guests forgetting that they had to be in office on a Monday.
The night was a perfect way to usher oneself to a busy week.
Great performances from Qwela Junction and Sax Aces who pulled off an unusual move when he played two Saxophones at ago leaving the crowd loving him more. He also added ragga to jazz.
A wild chant came in from the crowd when Brian Mugenyi took a suprise appearance onto the stage making merry happiness cloud Victoria Hall more. He also introduced another yet amazing player in the ring.
At about 9:30, Ugandan Jazz finest blend Isaiah Katumwa stepped on stage performing his ‘nakupenda saana’ jam. After his performance, Isaiah gave a moving mini speech and introduction of Uganda Legendary Jazz Maestro, Moses Matovu of the Afrigo Band sending Serena to a standing ovation.
The moment that many had loved to come finally rained downed when all the maestros all stepped on one stage.
The crowd were left nodding and appreciating. Many left their seats to have a feel of the Jazz while om their feet and grooving.
The show was a well organised one with fine sound thanks to Fenon.
Airtel made it rain too with lots of gifts for participants that saw one lucky walk away with a new Samsung Galaxy S6 and other goodies. At about 10:30pm, the show was brought to an end as the Jazz stars performed ‘obangayina’ but it was vivid that the crowd wanted more. A fine blend of Jazz is what a mammonth crowd at Serena and a perfect way to start a week.
