Despite the enormous negative criticism ODEL faced from stakeholders across the education sector, its stay has been approved.
Open and long distance learning (ODEL) – an emergency solution to the Covid-19 education hazard, will stay post pandemic.
Professor Mary Okwakol, the executive director at National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) says institutions should develop programmes to be delivered through ODEL.
She adds that institutions without ODEL won’t be allowed to go on operating in the education sector.
“Institutions that haven’t developed programmes and had them approved to be delivered using ODEL mode won’t be permitted to continue,” Professor Okwakol said.
She further noted that out of the 54 accredited universities, only 37 have been approved to implement the ODEL mode of learning.
Okwakol made the revelation at the fourth NCHE conference held at Hotel Africana on September 14, 2022.
The two-day conference is organized under the theme; “Enhancement of teaching, learning and assessment with open and distance e-learning in higher education.”
