Information reaching Campus Bee confirms, a gang of thieves are breaking into students hostels during this COVID-19 stay – home break as students are away at their homes following a directive for all universities to close hence forcing students to vacate these hostels for a month.
Information from one Makerere student who prefers anonymity suggests that students who stay in these hostels and rentals are alerted to raise enough money during this 1 month break to cover up their property which is being stolen at an increasingly worrying rate.
“Meanwhile Kikoni is on fire, if you have a friend or relative who stays in these rentals, tell him or her to look for money to buy new property in case the semester resumes, thieves are breaking into houses in broad light” the message reads.
In reponse to the message, students and friends of those concerned are further notifying AIGP Asan Kasingye (@AKasingye) and the whole police department at large with hope that a very strong action can be taken with immediate effect to apprehend these criminals.
For years Kikoni has been a residential area for a very big percentage of Makerere University students for the fact that it is closer to the institution and has an affordable cost of living which makes it a concentration spot for crime related to theft and burglary.
