The 10th edition of the Pepsi University Football league has so far given us a good taste of entertainment as those considered as aces failed to meet many people’s our expectations while several ‘underdogs’ have continued surprising us with some good football.
After two matches for almost every University team in this league, a look at group E immediately gives you chills down your spine as you try to guess who could come out top of this group. Every team in group E (Gulu, Uganda Martyrs, Ndejje and Kampala University) has three points with each team playing two matches. This means that every team has lost one game and won the other.
Group A has Kumi University surprisingly leading with six points from two matches played. Defending champions Uganda Christian University (UCU) are in second position with three points from one game played. Victoria University was one team that gave us too much hopes before the league opened. With their sports tutor Patrick Ssebuliba constantly praising the team, it still stands at the bottom of the table with no point from two matches.
Group B could be another entertaining one with University of Kisubi (Unik) winning it’s very first game in the history of the University Football League. Unik’s display could surprise many teams in the tournament. The University recently deployed Kizito Louis as the head coach and has transformed the team to a better version. Makerere University Business School still leads group B while Nkumba is in the second position. Unik follows in the third place with three points while Muni still has no points from two games.
Makerere University seems to be on a flying end after registering six points from two games while St. Lawrence skulks in the second position with 4 points from two games. YMCA has one point in the third position while Mbarara University of Science and Technology hasn’t registered any point in two games.
Group C and F both have three teams. As Kyambogo leads group C with 4 points from two games, Bugema leads group C with 3 points from one game. Kyambogo has the top scorer of the league so far with Mbalire Hudson’s 4 goals, they could be on the way of re-imagining their 2018 team that won this trophy.
We learnt that the best three teams in group A, B, D, and E will qualify for the knock out stages while best two teams in groups C and F will qualify for the same.
Let the entertainment continue as we bring to you all the happenings.
