Makerere University was saved by Owemugisha Bahinguzi’s late goal that helped them secure a point from St. Lawrence University (SLAU) in a game that ended 1-1.
SLAU’s Abura Michael opened the scoresheet with a goal in the 40th minute, setting pressures high for the Makerere University side.
The Makerere boys came back after halftime with more intensity and determination to win the game with Owemugisha and Kevin creating several chances in the SLAU eighteen yard box. It was not until the 82nd minute that Makerere finally got an equalizer that secured them a draw at SLAU’s home.
This means that Makerere University still holds its position at the top of group D with seven points in three games while St. Lawrence University comes second with five points. YMCA comes in the third position with 2 points while Mbarara University of Science and Technology has 1 point in three games at the bottom of the table.
It should be remembered that SLAU was the first runners up in the last University football league after being humbled by Uganda Christian University in the finals in 2019.
