A Islamic University In Uganda (IUIU)graduand has honoured her late mother’s memory by burying her in a graduation gown, symbolizing the culmination of a dream both mother and daughter shared. The touching act of love and remembrance unfolded as the student, celebrated her academic achievement amidst the grief of her mother’s recent passing.
The student, identified as Sabrina, penned a heartfelt note addressed to her late mother, expressing the bittersweet emotions of graduation day coinciding with the recent burial. The note, shared on social media, captured the essence of the daughter’s journey and her mother’s unwavering support throughout the years.
“Today (9.12.2023) is my Graduation with HONOURS. We buried you on Wednesday (6.12.2023) in HONOURS! We made it! You made it!” the note read.
The daughter further explained that the graduation celebration was dedicated entirely to her late mother, and the gown she wore during the ceremony had significant sentimental value. “I’m happy that I was able to send you off in a gown you have toiled so hard for the last 25 years to get on my body,” the note continued.
In a touching gesture, the daughter declined an offer for a cake and decorations that her mother had pre-ordered for the graduation celebration. Instead, she chose to keep the ceremony simple, emphasizing that the day was about her mother and the closure she found in sending her off in the graduation gown.
The daughter also acknowledged the support of her friends, who joined in the tribute by wearing their gowns during the mother’s burial. “Don’t worry about me, Mummy! I got a Celebration, and I’m still going to make you proud,” she assured her late mother in the concluding words of the heartfelt note.
