Yesterday March 8th, International Women’s day, the University of Kisubi (UNIK) held its annual beauty contest. The Pageant that saw six participants (three ladies and three gentlemen) attracted a great number of University students who came to witness the queens and Kings set to take over the University dominion.
There were many activities that the pageants went through, including catwalks, talent shows as well as answering questions from the judges.
The participants included Nayiga Marian, Atuhurra Benita and Mugerwa Brenda for Miss UNIK while Ainamaani Bob Mark, Twinomugisha Levis and Mboine Jerome were contesting for Mister UNIK.
The situation started escalating when the participants were asked to display their talents where everyone struggled their best to showcase what they got. All fun seemed to have ended until the much anticipated time came—answering questions from the Judges.
The judges asked each participant four questions where one was about their personal experience, while the other was about current affairs followed by logic and intelligence.
As the gentlemen tussled out questions like why they thought they were the best to represent the University, the ladies surprised everyone when they failed to name the Country’s current prime minister. It was Mugerwa Brenda who failed the question first and the students were surprised when Atuhurra Benitah was asked to answer the same question only to say that the answer had skipped her mind, even when some students tried to shout out the name ‘Nabbanja’ in anticipation that she would hear it.
At exactly 12:15 a.m, the winners of the pageant were declared by the adjudicators where the Miss University Uganda and Miss Nkumba University handed the winners and runners up with a number of gifts.
To the surprise of many students, Ainamaani Bob Mark emerged as the Mr. UNIK while Atuhurra Benita was declared Miss UNIK. The winners were advised to work on their knowledge on current affairs since they were headed for tougher competitions ahead.
We reached out to the guild minister in charge of campus affairs, Shakira, for a comment and all we got was ‘it was nice.’
