University of Nairobi (UoN) has been ranked the best institution for Higher Learning in East Africa by the Webometrics ranking of world universities. According Webometrics, UoN has scooped number nine in Africa defeating Makerere University which has been ranked the eleventh.
The Kenyan based university was also among the top 1000 universities in the world after it was ranked 990 worldwide. Other ranked public universities include; Kenyatta University which came second in Kenya and position 1,596 worldwide.
However, Makerere is still the best university in Uganda, followed by Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) and Kyambogo is the third.

Harvard University has yet again been ranked the best university in the world as Stanford University came second, followed by Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Oxford University and University of California Berkeley.
Speaking of other African universities, the top five universities all came from South Africa as University of Cape Town was ranked the best in Africa and 272 worldwide. It was followed by University of Witwatersrand, University of Pretoria, Stellenbosch University and University of Kwazulu Natal.
