Very devastating news hit the East African Community after a student at Mount Kenya University (MKU) was announced dead after he jumped from the seventh floor of the University Chancellor’s Tower which is situated within the institution in a suspected suicide attempt.
Confirming the incident, Thika Deputy Police Commissioner, Daniel Kitavi said the student died while receiving treatment at Thika Level Five Hospital where he had been rushed.
Speaking to the press, the Police Boss said the young man sustained serious head and leg injuries after jumping from the institution’s Chancellor’s Tower.
However, the cause of the student’s suicide attempt in not yet known despite the different investigations being carried out.
The deceased’s classmates, however claim he had been threatening to end his life over what he said were personal issues disturbing him. The body of the deceased was moved to the General Kago Funeral home as investigations into the incident still continue.
This comes barely a week after a Ugandan student in China died in a similar way, after jumping off his hostel balcony without a known cause of the incident which raises worry on the increasing number of suicide cases amongst students
