The Ugandan government has manifested double standards in handling students protests days after shocking citizens with a police led protest against European Union’s position on EACOP.
Infant students that subscribe to Uganda National Students Association (UNSA) recently staged a protest that was perceived as alien to Uganda.
The students that were escorted by police staged a protest march to petition European Union (EU) to ‘stay away from their oil’.
On the contrary, police blocked a similar protest by university students on October 4.
Over ten students, including Musiri David the head of institutions at NUP, were arrested and detained at Central Police Station.
The protestors were in support of EU’s position on the East Africa Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP).
These say EACOP project was in violation of nature and compliance to human rights, a similar position as EU.
EU recently passed a resolution against EACOP citing violation of human rights in Uganda and Tanzania.
In response to the resolution, President Museveni blasted the Europeans, telling them to stay away from ‘our’ oil.
By Press time, the arrested students were still being detained at Central Police Station.
