Yesterday 25th May, 2020, Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) Guild President Muhumuza Ryan Umar together with other guild officials distributed food relief to students who were stranded in the hostels without some basic needs. This followed the numerous calls and messages the guild received from students who were stuck in hostels seeking for relief aid.
On Sunday, Uganda National Student’s Association (UNSA) answered the call for help by sending food relief to cater for 62 students out of the 82 who had registered. According to HE. Muhumuza, a call for E-registration of the stranded students was sent and a number of them registered.
“I sent out a call for E-Registration and 82 students registered. In the mean time we can only avail food to only 62 students and the remaining 20 will also be catered for before the week ends as we continue to keep in touch with the office of the prime minister,’’ he told Campus Bee.
The food was distributed at the university while practicing Ministry of Health’s guidelines of practicing social distancing. Among the items distributed included milk powder, posho and beans.
In a special note, Muhumuza thanked UNSA and student leaders like a one Bukenya Hakim who assisted in the mobilization of students to get supported.
