The Uganda National Students Association (UNSA) has extended the deadline for the registration of delegates for the forthcoming UNSA elections.
This follows pressure and complaints from the participating universities and Higher institutions of learning around the country over the limited time given to them for preparation and registration.
In a letter dated November 20th 2022, the current speaker of UNSA, Agaba Kenneth Amponda confirmed the extension of the registration of delegates countrywide for one more week starting from 21st to 26th November.
‘’Following the numerous complaints and the overwhelming number of phone calls to the office of the Speaker from various delegates and Deans of Students of different institutions, all raising on the matter of a short time frame for this item and concerns from immobility of students in the locked down districts of Kasanda and Mubende, they all agreed that it is a key stage for participation in the 2022/2023 electoral process,’’ the letter reads in part.
‘’It is upon this background and subject in the provision of Article 6 Section 2.1(d) of the UNSA Constitution that the office of the speaker was left with no choice but to extend the item mentioned herein for a period of one week,’’ Agaba confirmed.
The earlier program for registration was supposed to close on Saturday November 19, 2022.
Annually, the leadership of UNSA conducts elections to usher in new leaders representing students at different positions across the country.
