There is a looming fight within the Uganda National Students Association (UNSA) over disagreements on expenditures and allowances.
The Bee has learnt that the UNSA secretary for finance Winnie Kobusingye is at odds with her boss Okot Francis over the management of funds by the former.
A source within UNSA NEC has disclosed to this publication that they are considering impeaching the finance secretary Kobusingye, a thing that the president is indirectly seconding through his secretary general.
“The impending suspension of the finance secretary stems from various issues, including insubordination, favouritism, and misappropriation of office funds. On numerous occasions, some UNSA staff members have been deprived of their allowances, while the funds have consistently been allocated to her,” our source disclosed.
Apparently, NEC members have received less money than expected since the start of the 34th UNSA government and are unhappy with their finance secretary.
“It is reported that her conflict with the leader originated from a particular NEC meeting, during which she criticized the president for withdrawing funds without her approval,” the source said.
Adding, “The Executive Secretary is currently attempting to defend her, but it is doubtful that his support can salvage the finance secretary from the predicament she brought upon herself.”
The UNSA leaders have called out their finance secretary to ‘stop misusing students’ money’ and to account for transport allowances given to them.
