Professor Moses Muhwezi, Principal of Makerere University Business School (MUBS), formally welcomed first-year students today with a message that blended encouragement with clear expectations: “You’ve joined a legacy — uphold it with pride and discipline.”
Addressing students at the official freshers’ orientation, Prof. Muhwezi reminded them that MUBS, as an affiliate of Makerere University, is a national leader in business and management education.
“As an affiliated institution of Makerere University, MUBS leads nationally in business and management education. We urge you to uphold this pride,” he said.
He urged students to take their academic and personal conduct seriously: attend lectures regularly, submit coursework on time, act with maturity, use library resources wisely, take care of school property, report problems early, and avoid dangerous or reckless situations.
While MUBS does not impose a strict dress code, the Principal reminded students that decency is expected and appropriate behavior is essential.
Prof. Muhwezi also reaffirmed the school’s commitment to equality, dignity, and non-discrimination. He stressed that MUBS has zero tolerance for sexual harassment and is committed to creating a respectful and safe learning environment for all.
He advised students to avoid harmful distractions such as substance abuse and unplanned pregnancies, and instead focus their energy on meaningful activism, critical thinking, and academic excellence. “As youth, channel your energy into positive activism, not self-destruction,” he said.
Concluding his remarks, Prof. Muhwezi assured the new students that the university’s leadership is fully behind them. “On behalf of top management, I pledge our support and commitment to helping you realize your full potential at MUBS.”
