Uganda Technology and Management Institute (UTAMU) is set to collaborate with a South African institution, University of Limpopo. This was revealed during a meeting that took place at the South African High Commission offices in Kampala.
According to H.E Jon Qwelane, the South African High Commissioner to Uganda, the idea of collaboration in higher education between South Africa and Uganda was a welcome idea which would nurture integration in Africa. He went on and said that he had always wanted to link institutions of higher education in Uganda and South Africa.
The Deputy South African High Commissioner to Uganda, Ms Wendy Swartz, applauded the teams from both UTAMU and Limpopo University for the efforts made in partnering the two institutions of learning.”Social issues like education have not been given the priority they deserve; this is a good initiative towards prioritizing education,” Ms Wendy said.
The First Secretary at the South African High Commission, Mr. Mpho Mminele, commended UTAMU’s collaboration with the University of Limpopo and noted that this marked the beginning of vibrant education sectors in both Uganda and South Africa.
UTAMU Vice Chancellor, who headed the teams from both UTAMU and Limpopo also thanked the High Commissioner for his support and promised to keep the South African high commission to Uganda informed of all the activities of the collaboration between the institutions.
