Uganda Technology and Management University (UTAMU) has introduced a short course on COVID-19, Campus Bee has established. While speaking to our own David Mujuni, the university’s Vice Chancellor Prof. Yusuf Sadiq confirmed the development adding that they have been holding online lectures even before COVID-19.
Sadiq further confessed that all their programs were fully implemented on their unique e-learning platform. According to Sadiq, their e-platform was built by their experts and it runs on the university’s server unlike other universities that use third party platforms.
“What makes the UTAMU e-learning platform very unique is that it is ours, we designed it, meaning our e-content sits on our server. We don’t use a third party and that’s why UTAMU has control over its content,” Sadiq told Campus Bee.
Despite the COVID-19 lockdown that forced most universities to close as directed by President Museveni in March, UTAMU continued with lecturers since it is well established with a trusted and reliable e-learning platform.
UTAMU students from Uganda and abroad are currently studying online and are warming up for exams once the government gives the university a green light.
The university is currently teaching both free and paid courses online as the Corona Pandemic continues to bite harder.
“We also have a short course on COVID-19, what you need to know. It is on our website. It’s a free course. So apart from running short courses, we also run free courses that we think the public needs to have,” Sadiq explained.
