Valley University Extends Submission Deadline For Its 2nd Annual Essay Writing Competition

At the beginning of June, Valley University of Science and Technology Bushenyi rolled out the 2^nd Annual Essay writing competition. Due to requests from different participants, the submission deadline has been extended to 20^th July 2023. The competition started last year where 60 participants were awarded.

According to the University Marketing Officer, Mr. Agaba Andrew, the University has partnered with Butuuro Financial Services to make this year’s competition bigger and cover the whole country.  He says the major objective of the competition is to reach out to financially disadvantaged but bright students. This goes hand in hand with promoting a writing culture among secondary school students in the country.

“The competition has attracted a number of students from different institutions and all parts of the country. We thank Butuuro Financial Services for coming on board and giving a hand in helping the financially disadvantaged but bright students. It is through such competitions that we shall promote a writing culture in our country.” Agaba noted.

The competition is still open for all those who wish to participate.

Eligibility

• Students
• S.6 Vaccists
• Members of society who qualify for university education

Questions

1. Discuss the relevancy of microfinance institutions in rural development.
2. Examine the impact of climate change on agriculture and food security.
3. For any society to develop, science and technology-based knowledge is key. Discuss this statement in the context of rural development.
4. The government of Uganda has been implementing measures to foster gender equality. To what extent have these measures strengthened gender equality and women empowerment?

Instructions

1. Attempt one question.
2. Original essays should be submitted to info@vust.ac.ug not later than 20^th July, 2023
3. Clear contact details (district, school, email address, telephone number) should be indicated.
4. Indicate current level of education.
5. Written essays will be marked out of 60. There will be an oral essay defense that will be marked out of 40.
