Bushenyi, Uganda – Valley University of Science and Technology (VUST) is taking significant strides to make higher education more accessible to underprivileged yet academically talented students. This scholarship is designed for students who have demonstrated exceptional academic performance, requiring applicants to have attained at least 5 credits at the O’ Level and a minimum of 12 points at the A’ Level. Beneficiaries of this scholarship are only required to pay functional fees amounting to Ugx. 300,000/=, significantly easing the financial burden of university education.

Scholarship for Relatives of University Community

In addition to the Vice Chancellor’s Scholarship, VUST has launched a scholarship to benefit relatives of current students, staff, and alumni. This initiative underscores the University’s commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive academic community. To qualify for this scholarship, students must have attained at least 8 points at the A’Level. Beneficiaries under this scheme will pay a total of Ugx. 400,000/=.

VUST continues to offer its 50% bursary program. This bursary is designed to support all students who meet the University’s admission criteria but did not achieve the eight-point threshold at the A’Level. By providing this bursary, VUST ensures that education remains accessible to a broader range of students, thereby promoting educational equity.

From the university’s past experience, the impact of these scholarships on students’ lives is profound. Wanyama Ivan, a beneficiary of the bursary scheme and a student in the Faculty of Education, expressed his gratitude, noting, “I am proud because the offer given to me has been consistent.” Similarly, Arinaitwe Judicious, who is undertaking a course in Information Technology, shared her relief and joy, stating, “The bursary has made it possible for me to study in peace without worrying about tuition. I was at a certain University before coming here but I can testify that no better environment than Valley University.”

These testimonials highlight the significant difference that financial support can make in students’ lives, enabling them to focus on their studies and achieve their academic goals without the constant stress of financial uncertainty.

Valley University of Science and Technology’s scholarship initiatives are a testament to its mission of transforming society through quality and affordable education. The University which started in 2016 has a total student population of over 1800 students, offering programmes at different levels in the fields of Agriculture, Business and Management, Information Technology and Education. It should also be noted that Valley University is in its final stages of Charter acquisition.
