In a landmark achievement that crowns years of relentless effort, academic innovation and hard work, Valley University of Science and Technology (VUST) has officially been granted a Charter by the Government of Uganda.
Signed by His Excellency the President of Uganda, H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on July 3, 2025, the Charter was formally delivered today to the University by Counsel Steven Okoth, a legal officer from the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE), during a symbolic handover at the University in Bushenyi district.

Receiving a Charter is the highest form of accreditation a private University in Uganda can attain. It signifies that VUST has met and exceeded the stringent requirements for academic quality, governance, infrastructure and institutional sustainability. With this status, VUST is now fully recognized as an autonomous degree-awarding institution under Ugandan law.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Dr. Enos Rwasheema, Vice Chancellor of Valley University of Science and Technology, conveyed heartfelt gratitude and excitement. “This is a historic day for the Valley University community and the people of Bushenyi. The Charter is a national recognition of our commitment to quality, innovation and service to society. It reflects the hard work of our academic and administrative teams, our students and our partners. Most importantly, it strengthens our resolve to deliver transformative education that is rooted in science, technology, and entrepreneurship.” He noted.

Dr. Rwasheema, together with Counsel Steven Okoth, extended sincere thanks to all the university’s stakeholders who have made this achievement possible. These include the Founding Body, Board of Trustees, University Council, Management, Staff, Students, and Parents, whose support, vision and commitment have fueled the University’s steady rise.
Founded with a vision to champion practical education and innovation in 2016, Valley University of Science and Technology has been instrumental in training professionals in key sectors such as agriculture, education, ICT and business. Its focus on community-based learning and applied research has made it a center of excellence in western Uganda.
As the university community celebrates this significant milestone, stakeholders across the education sector have lauded VUST for its dedication and impact. The Charter not only recognizes past achievements but also ushers in a new era of autonomy, excellence and greater contribution to national development.
