The Governor Bank of Uganda, Mr Emmanuel Tumusiime-Mutebile, has been appointed the Chancellor of the International University of East Africa (IUEA) the Daily Monitor reports. This is the first time Mr Mutebile is heading a university. In 2006, Makerere University appointed him honorary professor in the School of Economics and in 2009, Nkumba University awarded him a honorary doctorate degree.
In his acceptance speech at the university campus in Kampala at the weekend, Mr Mutebile said he was accepting the appointment because of the university’s vision to become the Technology University of Choice in Africa. “Africa lags behind other continents because we have not embraced technology. Looking at most of the things such as the internet and smart phones the world is proud of today, none of them is manufactured in Africa,” he said.
