Makerere University has suspended at least three students from the university over protests against vendor eviction.
Last week, a section of Makerere University students staged protests in an attempt to block the university from evicting vendors from the university premises.
Some of the ringleaders were arrested and the Bee has learnt that three of these have been suspended by the university over acts of hooliganism.
Among the students suspended are Bruce Mwebesa (chairman Nkrumah hall), Simon Wandukwa (law student) and Odama.
In a post on X, the 89th leader of opposition Mukwaya Muhammadi condemns the suspension and calls upon management to stop suppressing students.
“I condemn management’s cowardly act of suppressing the students’ voice with barbaric suspensions…this must stop,”he posted.
According to the suspension letter seen by this publication, the suspended students are accused of participating in acts of hooliganism that include disrupting teaching and learning activities.
The suspended students have been ordered to vacate university premises and wait till investigations into their alleged misconduct are finalised and a final verdict given.
The suspensions come with only a few weeks left to the start of end of semester one examinations. It is still a matter of speculation whether the suspended students will sit for their exams or not.
