Yesterday, Victoria University in partnership with Centre for Urban Studies and Research organised a public dialogue on urban governance in Uganda where the brilliant and ever funny MAK Associate Prof. Sabiiti Makara was Guest speaker under the theme; ‘Promoting Good Urban Governance in Uganda: Challenges and Opportunities’.
Professor Sabiiti emphasised the fact that Urbanization is an inevitable part of development and that all stakeholders must engage in trying to achieve proper urbanization. He also said that Uganda has one of the fastest urbanisation growing rate in the world at 5.1. He urged government to increase inclusiveness of the people in decision making and policy formulation.
The Dean of Victoria University, Maximus Byamukama pointed out that the Institution is not all about teaching students theories but also preparing and giving them information about practical things that they need in their day-to-day lives and careers.
The event that was attended by people from all walks of life including lecturers, civil servants, students and people from both the formal and informal sector was fruitful as urban governance in Uganda was expounded on and a few solutions to the major urban mysteries like traffic and corruption were realized.
