Victoria University has been awarded the title of Best Private University in Uganda for 2024/2025 by Public Opinions, recognizing its excellence in artificial intelligence innovation, student-centered learning, and corporate social responsibility.
The Ruparelia Group-owned institution received the accolade as part of the Uganda Responsible Investment certification and Uganda Development Champions Awards. The university was particularly commended for its pioneering role in artificial intelligence education and its commitment to national development initiatives.
Professor Lawrence Muganga, the University’s Vice Chancellor, has been at the forefront of AI innovation in Uganda’s education sector. “AI has the potential to transform various sectors including healthcare, education, agriculture, and finance,” said Muganga, who has authored multiple books and articles on artificial intelligence. His efforts to promote AI awareness and implementation have earned recognition from both academic and government circles.
The university’s selection followed a comprehensive survey conducted by Public Opinions, which evaluated ten nominated private universities across the country. Buyinza Adam Luzindana, Team Leader of Public Opinions, praised Professor Muganga’s vision, describing him as “a genius with exceptional knowledge and dedication to Uganda’s development.”
Beyond technological innovation, the university was recognized for its support of government initiatives, including the Parish Development Model program, and its contribution to national development through various corporate social responsibility projects.
As part of this recognition, Victoria University will be featured in the Prestigious Annual Uganda Development Champions Journal for Certified Responsible Investments, a publication distributed to government officials, parliamentarians, security chiefs, and members of the National Executive Committee of the ruling National Resistance Movement.
The award comes at a time when President Yoweri Museveni has emphasized the importance of artificial intelligence in addressing Uganda’s development challenges, including poverty reduction, unemployment, and economic growth. The president has highlighted AI’s potential to create new job opportunities in emerging fields such as data science, machine learning, and robotics.
This recognition cements Victoria University’s position as a leading institution in Uganda’s evolving higher education landscape, particularly in the integration of modern technology with traditional academic excellence.
