Academic and administrative staff at Gulu University returned to work this morning, ending a multi-day sit-down strike that had disrupted university operations.
The Joint Staff Association called off their industrial action on Monday, 3rd March, 2025, following several engagements with university management and communications from national education authorities.
The decision to resume work came after a Joint Assembly held on Monday, where staff members voted to end the strike. The assembly was chaired by Okot Walter, chairperson of Gulu University Academic Staff Association (GUASA).
Professor George Ladaah Openjuru, Vice Chancellor of Gulu University, also urged the staff to return to their posts.
The staff’s decision to suspend their industrial action follows correspondences from the Ministry of Public Service and Uganda Public Universities Forum.
Gulu University joins other public institutions like Mbarara University that have amicably resolved the industrial action by the staff members.
