While addressing a group of students at Kyambogo last evening, the University’s guild president Joseph Ochieng opened up about Kyambogo students’ huge admiration for Makerere University.
“Whenever you see a dog eating a neighbors’ food not your food yet this dog is yours, just know you are a poor cook. When Kyambogo University Students are here admiring Makerere and other Universities, how come other Universities have been paid but not us?, it shows you admire being in Makerere,” the bitter Ochieng reacted after a mini-strike as government sponsored students demanded for their tuition allowance.
The annoyed guild President went ahead to call upon Kyambogo students to fight for their rights. “The time has come to fight for our own rights,” Ochieng revealed. He made these remarks in a meeting earlier organized to plan for the way forward regarding internship allowances but in the end turned out to be a one man address to the students.
The unsatisfied Ochieng later decided to schedule a media briefing today so that his matter can be heard by the government but most of the media houses boycotted the invite. It is not yet clear when the briefing will happen.
