Makerere University students from the School of Statistics stormed the main building as early as 9am to demonstrate over the continued delay of their exam results for the last two months, from last semester to be more specific. The furious students began the strike chanting words like “we want our marks, police zee” after they were denied entrance into the main building by security.
After realizing that chanting outside the main building will not yield much, the bitter statistics students marched back to their school to plan their next move. They stayed confined inside one lecture room from where they later cooled down.
While addressing the press after this strike, the University’s Vice Chancellor Prof Barnabas Nawangwe revealed that all schools already got their results apart from the statistics school. Nawangwe also said that their exams were marked long time ago but the school had not uploaded the marks. “Actually, we have decided to upload provisional marks for the school of statistics. These students really surprised me. In the past, they waited for their results for two years without striking. Why now after just two months? Nawangwe wondered.
