Campus France was on Tuesday officially launched at Makerere University. The ceremony kicked off with a press conference and later an exhibition which was held at Makerere’s Freedom Square. The official opening ceremony was presided over by Hon. Mary K. Okurut, Minister for General Duties in the Office of the Prime Minister as the chief guest alongside the French Ambassador in Uganda H.E Stéphanie Rivoal.
The exhibition featured a number of activities where Makerere University innovators showcased their work. Among other activities included registration of Makerere students at the Campus France tent, who automatically entered a draw to win free goodies.
While inspecting the innovations, H.E Stéphanie Rivoal recognized one student’s work, who she later awarded a free scholarship to study in France, “So I am giving away a special prize and an additional one, it is also a scholarship to go to France. We were impressed by all of them it was so hard to pick one. But I have to say that Aine Juliet, please come forward, you are going to France on a scholarship, you are smart, talented and also a beautiful Ugandan lady,” Ms Rivoal complemented the winner while revealing her scholarship offer.
While talking to Ainenda, the Science and Agriculture student revealed how excited she felt after winning the scholarship; “I participated in this exhibition and I did Fish Culture Technology in Banana, Sweet Potato and Cassava and I emerged as the best winner. I have been given a scholarship to go and study in France, I am just so happy, I can’t just tell how am feeling but am so excited about this,” the excited Ainenda told Campus Bee.
Besides Ainenda, there were also other three students who won after participating in the registration draw and one of them will join Ainenda Juliet to study in France. The three winners were not at the event by the time of declaring the winners but they will surely get their prizes.
While addressing the press earlier in Makerere main building, H.E Stéphanie Rivoal revealed that opening Campus France at Makerere will improve on both business and education relations between Uganda and France.
