Students at Makerere University have embraced the launch of digital bikes; aimed at easing movement of campusers around the institution.
A total of 9 stations each with at least 20 bikes, have been set up at different spots around the university premises, including Mitchell Hall.
In various gratitude tweets, students at the institution have lauded the University administration for the initiative of deploying the digital bikes to facilitate students movements in the wide environment, such as this premiere institution is.
“Bicycle mobility for greener Makerere, healthier residents and minimal noise pollution. Kudos to Digital Bikes” reads a tweet by the official handle of Department of Environmental Management, College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at Makerere.
What you need to use the digital bikes
The team behind the digital bikes designed an app which students in the University can access from Playstore. (named Digital Bikes)
A user should also have a valid national ID or University ID which will grant them access to use the bikes.
Each ride goes for a fee of UGX 500, which is estimated to last 20 minutes long to reach your destination.
The Users need not to return the bike at the exact station where they picked it. They can park it at the station in their viscinity.
