The Vice Chancellor (VC) of Uganda Christian University Rev. Dr. John Ssenyoni while preaching to the community of the Mukono based institution made some remarks against politicians who keep meddling in the business of the church.
The VC in his sermon during the university weekly community worship prayers last week spoke particularly against politicians who have attacked the church about receiving money from corrupt officials.
In a video uploaded to the Thorny Croft Chapel, a Youtube channel of the university Chaplaincy, the VC while preaching about Freedom of a Christian Herald, attacked the government spokesperson, Ofwono Opondo for saying that the church should not accept offertory from corrupt government officials. Ofwono made these statements in article he wrote in one of the local newspapers.
“In the zeal to defend political positions, he fails to reason,” says the VC. He goes on to add that “I am ashamed that people like those have degrees.” He questions whether it is even closely possible to know whether an individual is corrupt before they can submit their offertory.
“Ofwono Opondo is very shallow in his argument. He is extremely shallow,” he charged.

According to the VC, it is not the mandate of the church to fight corruption. “It is the mandate of the government.”
He defends the church by saying that the gospel does not task the church to investigate in matters that are civil “…matters that belong to the government”.
“Ofwono’s statements are impracticable,” he says in the video. “and even if the money was passed on fairly, he wonders how one will know if the person that gave the money was corrupt or not. Ofwono Opondo does not understand the issues,” he concluded.
