Makerere University Business School (MUBS) Electoral Commission has been forced to halt guild elections after a section of students ran away with a ballot box.
This happened after NRM’s Nimrod Kakayi was stopped from casting his vote because he wasn’t on the registrar of legible voters. This angered NRM supporters who in the end took off with the ballot box.
Its alleged that quite a number of students were not on the lists of legible voters because they hadn’t paid tuition a thing that turned them violent.
Police that was on standby opened fire in order to calm the chaotic voters making it rain bullets and teargas canisters at the MUBS play ground.
It’s alleged that some students were denied access into the university and this resulted into a scuffle between Kiyega Rogers’s camp (UYD) and NRM’s Nimrod Kakayi’s ruthless camp.
The MUBS guild presidential seat is being highly contested for by NUP’s Valentine Ogwang Junior, UYD’s Kiyega Rogers and NRM’s Nimrod Kakayi.
By the time of publication, the bee had come to learn of the halting of the elections and the MUBS electoral commission is yet to release a new road map.
