Guild Representative Councillors (GRCS) at Makerere University were involved in a scuffle on Saturday during the reading of the 89th guild budget.
The reading of the budget didn’t take place as planned due to failure of the finance minister Kiranda Sharifah to present the budget before the house.
Kiranda didn’t present the budget because they’re (cabinet) allegedly still struggling to increase the funds given to the guild from 328 million to at least a billion.
The failure of the finance minister to present the cabinet budget left the GRCs bitter leading to a scuffle that was later calmed by police.
However, according to some GRCS that preferred anonymity, the finance minister was simply not well prepared read the budget. Campus Bee has learnt that there are ongoing arrangements to impeach the finance minister Kiranda Sharifah and the vice president Mariat Namiiro.
According to the Bushanda Godwin, the GRC debating union, the chaos was brought about because the current leaders have no student centered manifesto.
“This is when the top leaders have no manifestos that are pro student,”
Makerere University 89th Guild house is expected to resume business at the start of the forthcoming semester and first on the agenda will be the the discussion of the guild budget.
